Briefest of Brief Blogs - Online wthout AVG

Railway Line again. But I must shut-down because I'm online without AntiVirus protection. Madeline will be horrified but I can't help it. My AVG packed up and I thought I'll go for the paid-for version this time.

Done everything right but at the end, after I've paid I can't download. I keep getting the 'timed out' message.

Lappy going to computer place tomorrow anyway so they can sort it out.

Which means that Radiogandy may be silent for a few days. I shall catch up with all comments etc., on my return and thanks for those links Madeline. Ditto with anyone waiting for an e-mail reply.

Shutting down now before I aquire something undesirable. Take care all.

Amazed you’ve had problems with AVG Free.
Perhaps I don’t worry enough?

I had emailed you several times today; the last one just a couple of minutes ago! How relevant will they seem when you are back online.

Message yesterday from son resident in Florida. Apparently they are under threat from major forest fires which make Daytona as in a peasouper. I can find nothing about this on our news - only the Queen on an eats coast tour (I meant ‘east’ but ‘eats’ seems appropriate, esp in Florida?) who yesterday had been to the Kentucky Derby (Wow!). And we think they are insular (which they are, of course).

That's bad news about your AVG. All the same, I think you won't have been at too much risk if you were only online for a short time and your firewall's working properly. I'll miss your Blog, hope you'll be back soon!

I forgot to say this before, but now when I click on "Comments", it opens in a pop-up which is much better as I can still see your original Blog. Presumably this is a new feature as it used to just go to a new page.

Just for Madeline.
I have always had the pop-up panel for comment. But we all know these machines lead lives of their own.
One thing to watch out for:
If you start typing in your comment and then move your cursor back tot he main page to check something, anything you have typed will disappear.
Solution:
Click on the 'minus' sign at top right of comments panel and it will disappear. To return click on panel at bottom of screen.

Thanks for the tips, Bungus. I have enough trouble typing things once, without having to start all over again! Strange how I've just started getting the pop-up panel. Previously a whole new page loaded. i entirely agree with you bout PCs having minds of their own and sometimes they're very tiresome!

More for Madeline

As an incompetent myself I am always pleased to help where I can!

I find it more satisfactory to type my remarks in Word, edit and proof read them, and then copy them to 'blog comments' (or wherever else I want them, eg, email).

Thanks again, Bungus. I just type in the box here and use my spell checker, which is fine as far as it goes. Unfortunately, it doesn't pick up other mistakes, such as the 2 I made yesterday when I didn't proof-read carefully enough. i instead of I and bout instead of about!

Madeline,
How very careless of you!

If my nearest and dearest agrees with me about one thing it is that however many times something is proofread, something will not be spotted. But an eyboard like RadioG's provides a perfect excuse (I hope that he will not object to us using his blog as email in his absence).

I know, Bungus. I'm very careless at times!
You're quite right about proof-reading; many times I've posted something on a forum that I thought I'd checked and there it is - a glaring error! Fortunately, forums usually allow one to edit posts, but I haven't seen a way to do that on here. Is it possible?
I love "eyboard" in your comment, although it took me a few seconds to cotton on!
I'm sure RG won't mind us chatting like this, he's too nice for that!

So far aa I know Mdeline, the only one who can edit posts is RadioG the All-Powerful himself.
Because of this, (and having seen him hugging his refurbished aptop on Thur, which means that he will soon be back online) I fervently agree that he is a very, very nice man indeed
