We did have a sunny spell, one afternoon, and here it is, nicely lighting some of Y's 'poached egg' which she succeeds in growing wherever she plonks a spadeful.The car was in for service which meant we were grounded but the weather wasn't much of an inducement to go anywhere. Another advantage of village life is that although I drove the car to the garage Willis (the boss) brought me home and then delivered the car when they had finished. And he wouldn't let me go out to the car to take him back. He insisted on walking.
The National Trust paperwork is more or less completed and we are just waiting for a list of the 40 or so Mansfield Primary Schools to whom to post the 'funded trip for KeyStage 2' invites. Still very pleased with our HP printer. Halfway through a print run we had a 'paper jammed' problem but it told me in simple and effective terms how to fix it.
The picture on the right is Rene Burri's of 'Ché smoking a cigar'. The copy Rob sent me was only 3k so it won't enlarge very much - it might even get smaller.
Burri was a Magnum photographer and the link will take you to a Magnum website which runs through a selection of Burri's pictures. And outstandingly good they are too. His portrait of Picasso is one of the best ever. The Wiki page for Picasso is as good as it gets. At least a week's pleasant work there !
On the left is Elaine's 'Man smoking a Cigar' from Rob and Elaine's Cuba trip of last year. An excellent piece of work. I love the composition and her use of depth of field is spot on.David was off to the Caravan Club site at Peterborough today and I've just checked on the weather there. Much the same as here unfortunately but there might be a little subshine tomorrow. Lets hope.
We've decided that WoW is 'go' for tomorrow, but if the weather doesn't change we shall do an exhibition. According to Reg, the current one in Durban House is good. 150 pictures and it will save on petrol.
The first website I found said that it "was not to be copied for publication on any other website". So I haven't. Surely not the best way to get publicity !

I can't get that poached egg plant to grow for me, But I have that pink geranium ground-cover plant, it grows like mad everywhere I put it.
The thingy with the red umbrella is most apt - it has been grey and looked as if it would rain all day, it started pouring again about 8.0 p.m. and is still doing so (nearly midnight).
Son and family are down in Padstow, it has barely stopped raining there snce they went down there on Friday, and has been several degrees colder too. They are eating Rick Stein's Cornish pasties most days, by way of compensation. Apparently there are different sorts.....
I'm with blogmeister over the Dutch paintings.
The photos are superb - youngest daughter Carrie and her then husband and one-year old lived in Cuba for nearly two years - they were very happy there, both teaching part-time, but then they were given the ultimatum that they had to renounce British Citizenship and become Cuban if they wanted to stay any longer. Even they could see that it was not good idea, so they came home. This was ten years ago, I think conditions are worse there now.

I like the idea of ‘subshine’. I think it perfectly describes that time when the sun is trying to break through the cloud cover.

I thought Cuba had many good things going for it? eg, healthcare and socialism.
But apparently Iceland is the best place on earth to live – free health care, free education, free travel, free everything (but it does get cold sometimes ).
Many years ago I worked with a Dutch woman. I would say she was stolid but not stilted or lifeless, and she didn't wear a pointy hat. She was very noisy which I always thought was just attention-seeking behaviour. She did have a very attractive daughter though. Jill, I'd be interested to learn why you feel conditions in Cuba are worse now than they were ten years ago. My only experience of the country was a 2-week holiday this time last year but all the locals seemed quite happy and not at all resentful of our Western 'wealth'. As well as the healthcare and socialism mentioned by Bungus, I believe they have one of the best education systems in the world.

I came up with a new political theory this morning. The current malaise of Gordon, Labour and everyone is nothing to do with taxes, fuel prices, the credit crunch or sub-prime mortgages. It's all to do with our climate. If it was hot and sunny people would be out and about enjoying themselves, gardening, going to the seaside etc etc. As it's not, and it hasn't been for almost a year, we are all feeling depressed and are taking it out on Gordon. Bring back Alistair Campbell, he made the sun shine. Or did he make the Sun apologise? I forget now. It can be no coincidence that the only socialist states left in the world are in sunny climes. Personally I blame Al Nino for everything. There's a sign of the times - I used to blame Thatcher for everything.
