As he would have said himself - would you want to spend an hour in the pub with this person? Bloody hell, yes please!

Such a tremendous shock, condolences to friends and family.
ReplyDeleteI think I only met Graham three times, I knew him through this blog, though I have known Yvonne for over forty-five years. Radiogandy always put a smile on my face, it was always something to look forward to.
I would like to pinch Rob's comments too, I wish I could have spent an hour in the pub with him.
I am bereft. Awful for you Yvonne, and the family.
ReplyDeleteMy life would have been poorer if I had not known Graham.
Over 20 years and more of debate, good-natured disagreement, and much enjoyment, I have had no closer friend.
He had just been invalided out of The Force when we first met at Nottingham Writers’ Club.
He sprang to defend an aspect of my writing which had been fiercely criticised.
A few weeks later he lent me his car so that I did not have to leave early to get the bus home to Ollerton.
Typical.
We argued about trivialities but agreed about fundamentals like treating others with respect and compassion. Our religious and political views were similar too, and we had more than a few laughs while pursuing lifelong learning, both at home and away - Northern College, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, East Anglia.
Graham was an enthusiast – painting, writing, photography – sometimes for quite short periods before moving on. He was happy that I regarded him as a monstrous butterfly, flitting from one source of knowledge and entertainment to another.
His continual health problems were no secret but he battled through the worst times, emerging determined to live life as fully as possible.
Shocked and deeply saddened by his death, I am glad that when it had to come it came swiftly; he had suffered enough.
(Sorry Graham; 230 words).
We were very sorry to hear the sad news about Graham.
ReplyDeleteKnown to many as Radiogandy, he was a very popular and valued member of the Web User community and has contributed greatly to the success of both of our magazine and website for many years. He will be greatly missed.

Graham will be hugely missed on our Wednesday outings. He was always full of enthusiasm and, even when he was suffering, would say he'd rather put up with the pain and come out and enjoy himself. He was always happy to share his expertise as well as his knowledge and love of art and photography.
ReplyDeleteOur condolences go to Yvonne and the rest of Graham's family.

Dear Yvonne
ReplyDeleteI wanted to say how very sorry I am to hear about Graham. He was such a lovely man, funny, witty, wonderful to listen to and spend time with.
My memories of Graham's talk at EPS last year, being invited for afternoon tea and curry lunch will be with me always.
Take care.
Love Elaine
Shocked and saddened to hear of your loss and my thoughts are with you and your family.
ReplyDeleteI had only known Graham for a few years and been a 'blogger' for a short time but I will miss his enthusiasm, knowledge and wit.
I've had to come back on with a haiku as Graham was a great source of encouragement for them - as with so many other things.

I hope he would approve but I'll probably keep working on it.
