Ay’up, sorry, ah’m raight sorry at wot Jill said. Ah wuz in me eye’oles till ah red it, an’ it raight knocked me duck off.
But I am feeling much better now, so, barring lapses in lingo, I shall attempt standard English usage.
Anyone interested in the Mansfield dialect should try to get hold of a copy of 'Me Mam Sez', a collection of poems by Barry Heath. I do not know him, even though he is much the same age as me and we lived within half a mile of each other as children, so must have attended the same primary school. He wrote a play with the same title, and also a sequel, both of which have been produced several times in Mansfield and at least once at Nottingham Playhouse (I believe the sequel is in rehearsal at present at the Mansfield Palace Theatre). Anyone not interested in the Mansfield dialect will not want to bother.
